Whilst watching a BBC TV programe on the morning of 29th July Michael Barratt declared he transmitted his last Nationwide News programme from Saltburn having travelled the UK by train. The train had a specially adapted carrige painted white with the Nationwide logo on it. He also declared he spent a lot of his childhood in Saltburn yet all my searching has yet to reveal any further information of this. Barratt spent 10 years on the Nationwide news programe from 1969 so i assume the year was 1979. Can anyone shed any light on this.

I think Thomas Smith born 1785 was my gggg grandfather. According to the census returms he was born in Shinningrove in 1785 and possibly married Mary Wright in 1777 (Guisbrough). If any one has any information which is the same or similar to the above, I would love to hear from you.

Maybe it was the old cinema which was then turned into the bingo halls and then was knocked down and turned into flats, this was situated at the top of garnet street opposite the dry cleaners on the corner. I could be wrong but thought i would make a comment
